Panasonic to Move Mobile Phone Production Abroad

Panasonic plans to shift its mobile phone production abroad as soon as this summer, according to an April 1, 2012 report by Nikkei. Panasonic's move is projected to target at re-entering overseas markets in April and launching Smartphone products in Europe. Panasonic exited overseas markets in 2005. Currently, approximately 50% of Panasonic's mobile phones are manufactured in Japan. It is reported that production of Panasonic's plant located in Shizuoka will be moved to Beijing and Malaysia and some will be outsourced to other manufacturers abroad. It is estimated that the Shizuoka plant accounts for nearly half of the company's output.
